On the recommendation of a friend (Thanks Janet!), we took another detour and stopped by Page, AZ.
Page is the town closest to the Glen Canyon Dam area of Lake Powell. We reserved a dry camping site since the campground was full. We arrived, checked in, and drove to our site. We did not fit. Well, we fit, but barely and there was no way to level the trailer on a very unlevel site. We decided to just move on down the road. When we went back to the office, Susan waited while the clerk finished a phone call. When Susan told her our situation, she said they just had a cancellation (the person on the phone) and would we like a longer, full hook up site? Well, yes! How awesome is that?!?
We only had a half-day here, so we did a quick trip to the visitor's center. And saw the bridge and dam. We also learned a bit about the creation of Lake Powell. Very interesting problem solving!
We then drove to Horseshoe Bend. This is just before the beginning of the Grand Canyon. It was about a mile (uphill, both ways (seriously, both ways!)) to the view point, but it was an amazing sight.
Susan had to get out on the edge of the cliffs to get the entire river in the picture.
After Horseshoe Bend, we drove to a slot canyon called Waterholes. Janet offered to draw us a map to the entrance, but we figured we could find it. Besides, internet had been iffy and we didn't want her to go to the trouble of drawing a map when we may not even receive it.
We found an entrance, but it wasn't the easy one! We pretty much scrambled down rocks to get to the bottom. We started at the level of the bridge in the distance. You can see Trey already at the bottom.
Getting pictures here was difficult because of the high, close walls, but we hope these will give you an idea of what we experienced.
The sun was setting, so we didn't get to see the play of light on the walls. Still, it was beautiful!
We were so thankful we were able to get a campsite in Page. We enjoyed our afternoon there!
But I have trusted in Your mercy;
My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.
I will sing to the LORD,
Because He has dealt bountifully with me.
